I got to have a pretty long long weekend this week, taking from Saturday to Wednesday off, and it was great to be able to catch-up on a few things, especially getting my new house together and moving my cats in (they'd been at my dad's so as not to get underfoot or panicked during the move). They settled in wonderfully, which is pretty great. I mean, look at these guys.
This weekend, I want to catch up on some reading. I've also got a birthday or two and will be listening to some awesome readings at Whispers tomorrow which will be pretty darn great too.
How about you though? What are you up to this weekend?
WATCHING
The Australian Japanese Film Festival program is out! Pretty sure I'm going to need a five-film pass this year. There's so many great films screening.
32 horror movies that aren't about women being sex-murdered.
READING
As stress has been pretty high the last few weeks, I've really been getting through it by inhaling The Vampire Academy books. I'm up to the third in the series, Shadow Kiss, and it's kind of bad but also amazing.
So, it's not really reading, or at least not serious reading, but the latest installment of art commentary at The Toast is Women Dancing Miserably in Western Art and that is the straight up best.

The last few weeks have been crazy stressful for me and they don't really look to be slowing down. It's not exactly a good thing or a bad thing, just something that's keeping me very busy. In some ways, it's been good because it's making me re-evaluate my priorities again. Making me think about where I am now and where I want to be, which are starting to look like very different things.

Happy Friday! This week's been pretty great. I'm back at the day job, tying up my old role and getting things prepped for my new one as QWC's Digital Content Editor (excited! a little terrified!) I've also been slaying at wordage too, maintaining my blog schedule (an unofficial new year's resolution) and finishing and submitting a short story and non fiction piece. It's been pretty magical.
How about you? What have you accomplished this week?
- Or, more importantly, a Japanese fox village!!!
- An artist recreates seven generations of women in her family.
- Neil Blomkamps Alien sequel concept art is gooooorgeous.
- Owl cafe!!

I'm taking a few days off work as I've been unwell lately, and am trying not to stress myself out by thinking too much of Things I Should Be Doing. It's tough! I'm a workaholic! So I've been listening to a lot of Jo Hisaishi's music as I find it often transports me elsewhere. He's written the scores for most of Studio Ghibli's films, which is how I got onto him in the first place, but even beyond that, he's a stunning musician. Summer, the song above, is one of my favourites. Do you have any favourite instrumental musicians or scorers?
Otherwise:
- I'm half in love with Fly Art, a new tumblr combining fine art and hip hop lyrics.
- 9 female-authored comic books you need to read.
- 36 writing tips from Stephen King.
- Game of Thrones wines! Be still my beating heart.
- The allegations against Clarence creator Skylar Page are awful, but the outpouring of support from the animation community has been tremendous to see.
- New Harry Potter!!! Ahhhhhhh!!! AND A NEW MOCKINGJAY TEASER!!
Friday Finds

- As is the drama surrounding E3 Ubisoft's decision on stopping a female character in the new Assassin's Creed.
- Boxtrolls! I love both Coraline and Paranorman, so am pretty stoked for Laika's newest output.
- On the awesome animated movie front, Lauren Faust is doing a Medusa movie! Ahh! I'm super excited.
- Straight Boys Texting might actually be my new favourite thing.
- No, wait, Art History: 500 Years of Women Ignoring Men is my new favourite thing.
